Preparing for a CompTIA Security Career

There is compelling evidence that neither technologies nor policies alone offer effective protection against comptia security threats. Theft and destruction of intellectual property takes place despite the presence of firewalls, encryption and corporate edicts. The industry and governments around the world must have a well-trained workforce to effectively combat hackers, attacks and security threats. CompTIA Security+ is the standard computer certification for that workforce.
The CompTIA Security certification designates knowledgeable professionals in the field of security, one of the fastest-growing fields in IT. Security threats are increasing in number and severity, and the gap between the need for security professionals and qualified IT personnel is the largest of any IT specialty, according to a 2008 CompTIA study. Even in a troubled economy, most businesses plan to maintain or increase their investment in security.

The newest version of the CompTIA Security certification exam was launched in late 2008. IT professionals who are encouraged or required by their employers to remain current on their certifications have two options: They can take the new version of the exam, or they can take the CompTIA Security bridge exam, which covers the new objectives. The test, exam code BR0-001, is a 60-minute, 50-question test available in English. A passing score is 560 on a scale of 100-900. Only professionals who are currently CompTIA Security certified under 2002 exam objectives are eligible to become CompTIA Security 2008 certified by taking the bridge exam.

The CompTIA Security certification is geared toward IT professionals Network+ certification with up to two years of technical experience wishing to specialize in information security.

Certainly, there is no question that the cost of CompTIA Security+ is high. The good news is, there are several ways to reduce CompTIA Security+ cost which we review here. The first way you can reduce the cost of CompTIA Security+ is to buy discount voucher from http://www.securityplus-sy0-201.com.
Of course taking the Security+ exam without preparation is at best a shot in the dark. Highly regarded yet not well marketed is the CompTIA Security+ created by Tcat Houser, with Helen O’Boyle, et al. believe it or not, you can find this for free! Is available from http://www.securityplus-sy0-201.com at no charge.

This is not to be confused with the CompTIA Security+ exam Notes that come with your discount voucher from securityplus-sy0-201.com. The logic goes like this. When you are purchasing a discount voucher, you’re probably already ready for the exam. So making you download a 700 page PDF for an exam you’re already ready for is kind of stupid. This is especially true if you’re on a dial-up modem. So the guide available from Tcat, that goes along with your discount exam voucher focuses more on what to expect from the exam and less on the actual facts tested in the CompTIA Security+ exam.
October 2008 reveals the second iteration of CompTIA Security+. As of this writing, we are not sure how much overlap time there will be between the two different tests. The book created by Tcat and Helen is being revised and taken over by David Failor. David is CompTIA Security+ and MCSE exams. We are delighted with his attention to detail. And honestly, he had a little more time to put the new book together and Tcat and Helen had. We have been previewing his work and it rocks.
